The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has successfully launched an extensive range of world-class aluminium scissor doors and gates. These innovative products are designed to secure a wide array of residential, commercial, and industrial applications, including beachside and coastal homes, café’s, restaurants, alfresco areas, pubs, clubs, reception counters, serveries, shopfronts, warehouses, showrooms and many more.
Introducing ATDC™’s Aluminium Scissor Doors and Gates
Superior Design for Versatile Applications
These precision engineered aluminium scissor doors and gates are manufactured from marine grade aluminium and combine strength, stylish design and first class corrosion resistance. They can be colour matched to suit almost any environment.
ATDC’s aluminium scissor doors and gates are engineered to provide the highest level of security without compromising on aesthetics. The lightweight yet durable aluminium construction is resistant to corrosion, making these doors and gates particularly suited for coastal environments where exposure to saltwater and harsh weather conditions is a concern.
Their sleek design also complements modern architectural styles, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial properties.
Perfect for Coastal and Commercial Settings
The scissor doors and gates are perfect for securing beachfront properties, ensuring peace of mind for homeowners who require reliable security solutions that can withstand the elements. For businesses such as cafés and restaurants, these doors provide a secure yet stylish barrier that can be easily retracted to allow open access during operating hours and locked up after hours. This versatility makes them ideal for alfresco dining areas and outdoor spaces.
Multi-point Locking Options
Suitable for the most discerning homeowner and business owner, these aluminium scissor doors retract sideways almost completely out of the way when not in use and folding back to less than 15% of their expanded width. Multi-point locking options are available.
Now available in aluminium in either a fully framed security door or simply as a retractable trackless security barrier, ATDC’s aluminium scissor doors gates are lockable and secure.
Anti-corrosive Qualities
ATDC recently completed a successful installation of its S09™ Alumax aluminium scissor door at Pialba Place Shopping Centre, Hervey Bay (pictured) – this door was specified for its excellent anti-corrosive qualities given the high saline content of the marine environment in the area of the installation and given that this installation is very close to the ocean. Incorporating stainless steel fixings and concealed stainless steel rivets, these security doors are designed for longevity.
High-End Security with Customisation Options
ATDC™ offers these aluminium scissor doors and gates with a variety of customisation options, including different powder-coated finishes and locking mechanisms to meet specific security needs. Whether for residential or commercial use, customers can select from a range of colours and designs to match their property’s aesthetic while ensuring top-tier security.
Available Nationwide and Beyond
ATDC’s aluminium scissor doors and gates are available across Australia, including all major cities and regional areas. They are also exported to international markets, bringing ATDC’s world-class security solutions to customers worldwide. See our Export information.
Clubs Combat Smoking Provisions With Security Barriers
Current legislation bans smoking indoors across NSW’s 3,700 licensed venues. The legislation allows smoking in areas which are 25 per cent open to the elements (known as the “75/25” open air provision), whilst smoke needs to be allowed to be blown away. Venue operators have been putting significant effort and expense into modifying their gaming areas to accommodate the smokers.
Trellis Style Doors
One relatively inexpensive product becoming increasingly popular with these venue operators to assist compliance with the 75/25 rules, is the S06™ Trellis Door, available from the Australian Trellis Door Company™.
The open-style nature of these expanding steel trellises allows smoke to blow away through the doors. They also provide excellent security to the clubs’ expensive gaming machines out of operating hours. Furthermore, when desired, these trellis doors can be opened to the sides and tucked away completely from site.
Security Doors – Heavy-duty Steel
The doors are made from heavy-duty steel and are secured on each end by auto slam-locking posts, or they can be fitted with emergency egress locking. They are top-hung and come with a number of bottom track options including fixed, recessed, hinged or removable. Use of a bottom track can be avoided completely and replaced by the use of patio bolts. The doors can operate in a straight line or may be curved through a radius of 600 degrees (S08™ Curved Trellis). For storage purposes, these doors are folded away to the side of the opening and may be recessed into a cupboard.

The recent success of The Australian Trellis Door Company™’s (ATDC™) mobile expandable security door installations for retailers at Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne International Airports has led to similar successful projects at overseas international airports such as Heathrow International, Hong Kong International, and Nadi (Fiji) International Airport.
Expandable Security Doors for Airports
Recent Installation
The above image shows one of 4 recent installations at Port Moresby International Airport, Papua New Guinea where ATDC’s expandable security doors have been installed to secure large retail tenancies at the airport’s recent upgrade.
Unique Demands
With security of stock and property a primary concern for these retailers, ATDC’s portable expandable security doors were specified by numerous Australian based architectural firms that were looking for a cost effective security door. It needed to be capable of spanning very wide expanses across irregular shaped openings that had no overhead support structure.
The ATDC Solution
ATDC’s expandable mobile security doors satisfied all these requirements. Folding neatly out of the way when not in use, these trackless expandable security doors are stored in joinery cupboards on the extremities of the openings or simply wheeled away on their heavy duty bottom castors and stored off site.
Access Control Measures
More recently the world renowned Plaza Premium Lounge Network has installed ATDC’s expandable security doors at the entrance to its lounge at Terminal 2, The Queen’s Terminal, Heathrow International Airport. Plaza Premium Lounge is a global service brand headquartered in Hong Kong. It operates in more than 120 global locations in 28 airports and has over 2500 employees. (www.plaza-network.com).
Plaza Premium has installed ATDC’s trackless expandable security door as an access control measure –the barrier is installed across the entry to the business lounge –this particular opening has minimal fixing points and the overhead structure is too high for a cost effective overhead door to be fitted. And ATDC’s precision engineered barrier with its high quality exterior powdercoated finish was deemed suitable for the high profile location
Market Leading Movable Security Screens for International Airport
Airport Movable Security Screens
The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has installed its market leading movable security screens for the Swiss based Dufry AG at Perth International Airport.
Dufry – Duty Free
Headquartered in Basel Switzerland, Dufry has in excess of 2200 duty free stores across the world, employs more than 29000 staff and operates in over 64 countries.
ATDC successfully installed their OH+S safety tested, movable security screens at the Collections and Perth Street Markets tenancies (both stores owned and operated by Dufry).
Trackless Free Standing Solution
In both instances these mobile, trackless, free standing screens resolved the client’s shopfront security requirements in the absence of any meaningful support structure to support their installation.
Project managers for the job were Jolimont based Cooper & Oxley and the specifying architect was Fratelle Group from Northbridge, Perth.
Mobile Safety Fencing for American Airlines
Safety Barriers
The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has installed its safety fencing to the departure gate area for American Airlines at Sydney International Airport.
The safety fencing has been installed to restrict access and pedestrian traffic to the departure gate during specific, limited hours of the day.
ATDC Mobile Fencing Installations
ATDC has also installed thousands of metres of its safety fencing at multiple locations at both of Sydney’s international and domestic airports in many different applications including screening off shopfronts, restricting access to the very wide expanse of area where duty free merchandise is displayed for sale during closing hours, screening off work-safe areas for OH+S purposes, securing customs areas of the airport, access control to areas for screening of carry-on luggage and other security locations, and securing entry to bonded warehouses for freight.
The mobile fencing is perfectly suited for these applications, given that they are mobile, trackless and free standing, they require no headroom or overhead support, and their width is unlimited due to their modular design. They are manufactured from toughened steel sections and have wall mounted and floor mounted locking options. They are compact and both safe and easy to operate, running on a series of heavy duty 75mm rubber non marking thermoplastic bottom wheels. The fencing is typically available in standard height modules of either 2020mm or 2520mm, although custom heights can be tailored to the needs of any application or project.
Steel and Aluminum Options
Both steel and aluminium safety fencing are available with the latter more suitable for installation in a highly corrosive marine environment such as coastal locations. The clear anodised and UV-resistant Dulux powdercoated finishes provide the anti-corrosion characteristics of these cutting edge aluminium barriers.
ATDC’s safety fencing is OH+S tested and are also independently tested in an approved NATA laboratory against the Australian Standard AS 4687 -2007 Temporary Fencing and Hoardings. They have also been successfully tested for emergency egress under the BCA.
Premium grade portable barriers Installed at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant at LAX
Premium grade portable barriers have been installed at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant at LAX International Airport in Los Angeles.
Portable Barriers – Premium Grade
Wolfgang Puck is an Austrian Born-American and is an internationally renowned celebrity chef, award winning restaurateur, newspaper columnist, famous television personality, part time actor and philanthropist. His group’s activities also include catering services, cookbooks and premium grade licensed products.
The portable barriers installed at Wolfgang Puck’s LAX restaurant are mobile and trackless and have been configured in a multi-angled shape to accommodate the unique contours of the storefront. Being trackless and free standing, these portable barriers require no headroom at all which is normally a necessity for overhead door systems and they require no overhead support structure making them easy and economical to install since no structural bulkheads are required. Available in standard heights of 2020mm or 2520mm (or available in custom made heights as required), the span of these portable barriers is unlimited due to their unique semi-modular design and thereby the need for heavy, unsafe and unwieldy removable mullions is avoided making it easy and safe for staff to operate. The portable barriers are able to blend in with the aesthetics of the storefront with their sharp precision angled lines and high quality gloss powdercoated finish (standard finishes are either a black satin or a pearl white although any finish in the dulux Australian powdercoat range is available as an extra over option).
The Manufacturing Process
Manufactured from precision engineered high tensile steel sections and with both wall mounted and floor mounted locking options, these portable barriers are compact, sturdy and formidable yet are very easy to operate running on a series of low friction heavy duty 75mm bottom thermoplastic rubber non marking bottom castors. Both steel and aluminium portable barriers are available with the latter more suitable for installation in a highly corrosive marine environment such as coastal, beachside or riverfront locations. The natural anodised and UV-resistant powdercoated finishes provide the extra anti-corrosion qualities of these quality aluminium barriers.
Tested and Approved
OH+S tested under the Australian legislation for safety and with a detailed, written and independently audited WHS Risk Assessment, The Australian Trellis Door Company’s (ATDC) portable barriers are stand out leaders in the field and are also independently tested in an approved NATA laboratory for dynamic impact, simulated climbing and wind force overturn conditions under the Australian Standard AS 4687 -2007 Temporary Fencing and Hoardings. Further testing has been successfully completed for emergency egress under the Building Code of Australia where required.
ATDC’s portable barriers are also available in a double diamond lattice pattern with the steel mesh tightly interwoven resulting in the pitch between the metal cross linkages at a mere 65mm to 70mm. This prevents people putting their hands through the mesh to reach merchandise on the other side of the barrier making the portable barriers an extremely effective loss prevention aide.
Security for Retailers
Suitable applications for ATDC’s portable barriers include achieving temporary security for pop-up stores, kiosks and other temporary retail tenancies, access control for shopping centres and public buildings (such as railway stations and passenger terminals for instance at airports, ferry stations, bus terminals), Worksafe applications such as construction sites, sports stadiums, public events, entertainment venues, securing of warehouses and loading docks. ATDC’s portable barriers are also available for hire on a long, medium term or short term basis.
INCREASED FOCUS ON SHOPFRONT SECURITY FOR AIRPORT RETAILERS
The security landscape is changing throughout the world, with Australia being no exception. For the first time Australian retailers are facing new security risks that before had only been experienced in films and on TV. ATDC provide mobile security barriers to combat these issues.
Airport Shops Require New Security Strategies
What Security Measures are Retailers Investing In?
The demand for increased security has seen retailers proactively investing in a number of different measures to protect their merchandise from vandalism and theft, including those retailers at airports and other public buildings across the country as well as retailers in shopping centres, strip retail shops, restaurants, clubs, hotels and gyms.
What Are ATDC Doing to Help Airport Retailers?
In recent years the Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has been successfully installing its extensive range of retailer friendly mobile security doors and security shutters for retail stores at airports across Australia including Brisbane International, Melbourne Domestic and International, Sydney domestic and international, Cairns, Perth, Gold Coast, Port Hedland and Darwin International Airports.
Which Airport Retailers Have We Worked With?
Many of Australia’s leading retailers are relying on ATDC’s successful track record and extensive security industry experience and are installing their quality range of security doors and security shutters across their retail shopfronts. Leading retailers such as Purely Merino, Australian Way, RM Williams, Billabong, News Travels, Quicksilver, and Flight Centre to name but a few.
Recently Heinemann, the global German-owned retailer, was awarded the duty free concession at Sydney International Airport and has installed nearly 600 lineal metres of ATDC’s portable, expandable, roll away security barriers/doors to secure its store. This is the largest single contract ever awarded in Australia to date for portable security gates.
And JR Duty Free has recently installed 60 lineal metres of ATDC’S top-hung SO6 heavy duty trellis security door at its new store at Brisbane International Airport.
Why are Our Doors Ideal for Airport Retail Applications?
ATDC’s security doors and security shutters are unique-they fold back to a mere 15% of their expanded width so as not to be visible during trading hours;they can be made to comply with egress requirements under the BCA where required; they can be manufactured to span unlimited widths and can accommodate curved apertures. The trackless barrier does not require an overhead structure as it is completely freestanding. And ATDC has a fully documented WHS risk assessment completed for its trackless security gate.

The Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™)’s S06™ shopfront security door has recently attained a further security rating after testing against the Australian Standards. This is the first such security rating ever in Australia for a trellis security door.
Shopfront Security Doors for Movie Theatres and Entertainment Venues
Wide Security Screen at Cinema
The Testing
The tests were carried out by Azuma Design which is a NATA accredited testing laboratory. Having passed the Dynamic Impact and Anti-Jemmy tests earlier in 2013, the S06 has last month also surpassed the last relevant test deemed applicable for Trellis type door systems, namely the Pull test.
In this test a significant Newton Pull force is applied for specified lengthy periods of time with mechanical levers at various points on the trellis door mesh in an attempt to force it open. The S06 again succeeded.
Top Security Rating
The security rating is testament to both the quality of ATDC’s range of shopfront security doors as well as a vote of confidence in the integrity and skills of ATDC’s management team and engineering department. No other trellis type security door in this country has achieved any security rating as measured by Australian Standard 5039 and this should give the consumer full confidence that when it installs the S06 security system to their premises that they have the protection of a security barrier that meets the highest quality standards.
Shopfront Security Doors
ATDC’s shopfront security doors are now being utilised to secure many entertainment venues, movie houses, theatres, gaming areas, pubs, hotels and restaurants. Greater Union Cinemas, Reading Cinemas, Hoyts and Dendy Cinemas are all frequent repeat customers in the movie industry. Many hotels are using ATDC’s security systems including Star City Casino, Radisson Hotels, Accor Hotel Group, Sydney’s Regent Hotel, Marriott Hotels and many more.
In these examples ATDC’s S06 heavy duty shopfront security doors have been used to provide a barrier against forcible break in and enter and also against vandalism whilst its S04-1 security door has been used more as an access control system providing a crowd control barrier within the foyers, walkways and entries to the movie houses.
Australian Trellis Door Company’s (ATDC™) retractable security barrier is being widely used across the rapidly expanding Star Carwash network primarily to secure the on-site cleaning chemicals and compounds.
ATDC Barriers Trusted to Secure Cleaning Chemicals and Compounds
Retractable Security Barriers
With many of these wash bays now being installed in the high traffic car parks of many of the country’s leading shopping centre networks (such as those owned by Westfield, LendLease, QIC and AMP) the onsite cleaning chemicals need to be stored safely and securely and out of reach of the general public.
Many of these wash bays are installed in difficult shaped locations with numerous limitations such as low height ceilings and odd-shaped apertures.
Portable and Trackless
ATDC’s retractable security fence is proving to be an effective solution for the Star Carwash group. The system is completely portable, trackless and retractable; it can span any width and can accommodate any angle (even curved configurations).
Numerous ATDC’s barriers have been recently tested as compliant in certain circumstances against the Australian Standard 4687-2007 Temporary Fencing and Hoardings. Further, ATDC’s barriers have an independently audited comprehensive WHS Risk Assessment for added workplace health and safety certainty.
A standout leader in its field, ATDC’s retractable security screens are setting the industry benchmark for quality and safety. Additional special features include BCA compliant egress locking facilities which allow for keyless exit in the event of emergencies.
Application Options
Applications include securing almost any type of opening including airports, railway stations, government buildings, shopfronts, shopping centre foodcourts, warehouse entries, loading docks, temporary tenancies, outdoor eateries and restaurants, hotels, pubs and clubs, partitioning, crowd control, access control and many more.
Recent overseas installations of ATDC’s retractable security barriers include Hong Kong International Airport, Heathrow International Airport, Port Moresby International Airport, and Nadi International Airport-Fiji.

ATDC Trackless Portable Barrier Proves Its Strength in Rigorous Testing
Trackless Portable Barrier – Passes the Test
This is the first case of a mobile trackless portable barrier successfully crossing over to the Temporary Fencing Industry.
Tested recently at a Nata Accredited Laboratory in Sydney, the portable security barriers were tested against the requirements under the Australian Standards for Simulated Climbing, Impact, Foothold Aperture and Windforce Overturning.
This testing was initially motivated to meet the stringent requirements of Sydney Ferries/State Transit Authority for the upcoming prestigious Barangaroo Ferry Wharf project at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Security Applications
Typical applications for the retractable portable security barrier include securing kiosks, temporary tenancies, food courts, malls, shopping centres, warehouses, loading docks, sporting facilities, access and crowd control, partitioning, OH+S Worksafe applications and many more.
Why Choose Portable Barriers?
Our portable barriers are designed to provide failproof security while looking professional, ensuring ease of use for staff, and retaining safety for staff and customers in case of emergencies. With the ability to move them where necessary (and pack them down to take up little space) this option is perfect for businesses requiring a simple security solution, or temporary setups like events to have a removable safety option.
Sold Across Australia
The retractable portable security barriers are designed and sold in Australia. ATDC services all major cities and regional towns. Our team is dedicated to providing tailored security solutions to meet your specific needs.
Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) continues its successful market penetration of the factory, warehouse, distribution centre and industrial market sector with its expandable security barriers.
Expandable Security Barriers in the Industrial Market
Bing Lee
Its latest addition of prestigious customers includes well known retailer Bing Lee, albeit in an industrial application. Bing Lee is the largest privately owned electrical retail company in NSW. It specialises in consumer electronics, computers and telecommunications products.
Bing Lee has installed ATDC’s expanding barriers at its national warehouse and distribution centre at Guildford in Sydney’s western suburbs to secure its warehouse during trading hours when its warehouse loading dock doors are open. ATDC’s expandable barriers can be installed up to a height of 2500mm high and are an effective deterrent in preventing unwanted entry during trading hours.
Being an open steel grille, the inflow of fresh air through the expanding security barriers allows ventilation during the hot summer months. When unlocked and open the barriers fold back neatly out of the way so as to be almost invisible and with their tight and compact stacks they allow a clear path for trucks and forklifts to pass through unobstructed.
ABC Tissue
More recently ABC Tissue, which is a top 1000 Australian Company, installed ATDC’s commercial retractable barriers at its Wetherill Park distribution centre in an effort to provide protection for its expensive machinery and for stock and inventory control by deterring theft of its products.
Further Safety Applications
Other applications for ATDC’s industrial expandable security barriers include cordoning off areas on industrial, factory, warehouse, distribution premises to assist in access control, providing work safe areas, and to protect employees from dangerous plant and machinery.
ATDC also carries an extensive range of fully framed expanding security barriers which are used in the industrial market to secure warehouse and factory passageways, doorways, windows, alcoves, large glass showroom entries and doorways.
ATDC’s barriers are now sold throughout Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra as well as in all regional towns across the country including Newcastle, Geelong, Townsville, Sunshine and Gold Coast regions.
and also includes a full residential range of expanding security barriers as well as a full range of roller shutters and security shutters for the commercial, industrial and residential markets.
The Australian Trellis Door Company™ offers a range of steel trellis doors for commercial purposes as an economic solution for securing shop-fronts in shopping centres and on street-frontage.
Steel Trellis Doors – The Economic Solution
These trellis doors are becoming increasingly popular in shopping centres as the main (only) store front door (no glass) due to their strength, through-visibility, competitive pricing point and low maintenance.
Affordable and Effective
These doors represent a significant cost saving for prospective tenants compared to the traditional forms of horizontal folding closures and vertical shutters. They are becoming increasingly preferred as the door of choice for closing off stores selling electronic equipment, white-goods and other high value items.
Egress-Handle and Plate
The company has recently developed a new egress-handle and protective plate solution to enable easy key-less opening and exit from the inside of the store in an emergency situation.
The plate is constructed from high-strength thick Lexan sheeting, which is cut, bent and slotted to enable it to slide with the concertina action of the trellis door. A layer of 3M black vinyl film is applied to the Lexan to block out external visibility of the handle position (Lockwood lock and handle) situated on the inside of the plate/door.
Ease of Access and Safety
Someone trapped on the inside of the store need merely push down the lever handle and slide the trellis door sideways to gain egress from the store.
For entry to the store, another lock (ATDC Three-point Alumax Lock) is fitted to the centre of the door for easy key-turn access. This lock may be keyed-alike to other restrictive locking systems.
The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) offers a mobile access barrier that is increasingly popular for restricting access in manufacturing and construction environments, while still allowing roller doors and loading docks to remain open.
Mobile Access Barrier for Manufacturing and Construction Environments
Mobile Trackless Access Barrier
The S04-1™ Mobile Trackless Trellis System is designed to restrict access to loading docks and warehouse roller door entries, preventing the public from wandering into factories and warehouses during trading hours. The system is typically fixed at one end and lockable at the other, but it operates on trolleys, allowing it to be wheeled away and stored out of sight when not in use. In the absence of suitable side-fixing points, the system can also be locked into the floor. This flexibility makes the S04-1™ system very economical and ideal for securing awkward openings that may be challenging to close off otherwise.
Versatile and Practical
The S04-1™ trellis barriers provide significant flexibility and safety. Their design makes them suitable for a variety of applications, ensuring that spaces remain secure without compromising accessibility. This versatility is particularly useful in environments where traditional barriers might be impractical or too costly to implement.
Safety on Construction Sites
The S04-1™ trellis barriers are also effective in providing safe environments on construction sites located near pedestrian traffic. A notable example is the use of these barriers by Bovis Lend Lease at their shopping centre extension project in Charlestown, NSW. Due to noise restrictions, Bovis could not perform construction work at night, so they used these barriers to cordon off mall areas under construction from the trading areas. This allowed construction work to continue during normal centre operating hours without disrupting the shopping experience.

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ offers a range of steel trellis doors as an economic solution for securing shopping centre shop-fronts, kiosks and food court expanses.
Trellis Doors provide an economical closure solution in tough economic times
The Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) has produced a quality range of economically priced door closure solutions for retailers seeking cost savings in these tough economic times.
ATDC was recently approached by Caffe Cherry Beans to provide a closure solution for their new store opening at Woden Plaza, Canberra.
Having received quotes from different door suppliers in the market to provide a suitable solution for their expansive shopfront, Caffe Cherry Beans was looking for cost effective alternatives after reviewing the expensive proposals it had received for bifold, concertina folding closures.
ATDC’s SO6 model trellis door (pictured) was selected not only for its comparative price advantage but also for its sleek lines and stunning appearance.
Fully ventilated for maximum airflow, the SO6 was installed at a height of 4100mm and suspended off a heavy duty extruded aluminium top track with industrial grade hangars and metal bearings.
No floor track was required in this instance and intermediate barrel bolt locking into floor sockets at regular intervals provided a practical lock up solution. And in order to reduce the depth of the side stacking of the door a parallel top tracking arrangement was implemented for space savings and stack minimization.
Also available in a curved configuration, these full height trellis security doors are proving a winner.
And for even further cost saving options ATDC’s trackless trellis barriers are worth looking at. Being completely trackless, these barriers can be set at any height and they can span an unlimited width in a straight line or even a curved format.
They are completely detachable and mobile and can be stored off the premises or back of house during trading hours.
Mobile Trackless Trellis Barriers
Customisable Options for Your Needs
The company offers both mobile trackless trellis barriers and fixed trellis door systems (with top track and optional bottom track).
Mobile Trackless Barrier Systems
The mobile trackless barriers are popular for closing off retail kiosks, mall expanses, and shop-fronts requiring a moderate level of security. This system is used by many retail kiosk operators, such as Boost Juice and Coffee Club, and by shopping centre operators nationwide, such as Westfield and Centro. They use them mainly to secure specific areas of the centre whilst allowing others to continue trading. The system is versatile (does not need fixing points) and economical.
Fixed Trellis Door Systems
Then there are the fixed trellis systems which are becoming increasingly popular in shopping centres as the main (only) shop security door (no glass). They have just installed them for many stores at the new Westfield Bondi, including Prouds, Dick Smith Electronics, and Warner Brothers, amongst others.
Popular Now
Their new popularity as shop-front closures are due to their strength, through-visibility, competitive pricing point and low maintenance. These doors represent a significant cost saving for prospective tenants compared to the traditional forms of horizontal folding closures and vertical shutters.
How They Work
The doors can operate in a straight line or may be curved through a radius of 400 degrees. For storage purposes, these doors are folded away to the side of the shop front and may be recessed into a cupboard.
Our trellis doors are top-hung. There are a number of bottom track options including fixed, recessed, hinged or removable. Use of a bottom track can be avoided completely and replaced by the use of patio bolts. Both fixed and mobile systems fold away to 15% of their extended size (can be split each side). They have a unique locking system which locks instantly when slammed closed, without needing to turn a key.
Cost effective expandable barriers to secure your business
With budgets generally tightening, ATDC’s entry level commercial expandable barriers are a cost effective way to secure your premises.
Manufactured from steel and completely collapsible, these trackless barriers are a great visual deterrent and fold completely out of the way during trading hours so as not to be visible during trading hours.
They are generally installed on the internal of the glass frontage and are available up to a maximum height of 2500mm.
They are also available in a double diamond mesh option which prevents persons from climbing over the barriers or from putting their hands through to reach merchandise on the inside.
The recent introduction of new legislation banning smoking indoors in licensed venues requires smoking areas to be open to the elements so that smoke is allowed to blow away. Roller shutters are a great solution by ATDC.
Permashield™ Roller Shutters
The Ideal Solution
Venue operators have been putting significant effort and expense into improving their gardens and outdoor areas to accommodate smokers. Permashield™ Roller Shutters allow such operators, such as the Sporties Club at Belmont, NSW, to move their poker machines into their covered (outdoor) areas which comply with the above smoking provisions, and to install such shutters around these machines allowing them to secure these areas at night, providing protection against intruders and the outdoor elements.
Product of ATDC
Permashield™ Roller Shutters are a product of The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™). Their shutters are sleek and unobtrusive, and blend in with the overall appearance of the facility. During trading they roll up totally from view leaving the entries unobstructed. Certain models can be supplied with an overhead pelmet box to totally conceal the rolled shutter-curtain when in the open position. Their wide-span shutter range can close areas up to 6m in one piece.
Wide Range of Shutters
Permashield™ Shutters include a wide range of suitable shutters, from enamel-baked, roll-formed aluminium with polyurethane in-fills, to powder-coated, extruded aluminium profiles. Their non-corrosive characteristics mean that maintenance is nil. Shutters can be manually or electronically operated, including remote-control operation. The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) offers a range of steel trellis retractable doors and barriers which are proving popular in solving many Occupational Health and Safety issues in manufacturing and construction environments.
Security with OH&S in Mind
Mobile Trackless Barriers
Their S04-1™ Mobile Trackless Trellis Door System provides a protective barrier for dangerous machinery in manufacturing environments. It can be used to restrict access to certain dangerous areas of the factory while machines are in operation which could cause injury to passers-by.
It operates on trolleys and can be wheeled away when not in use and stored out of sight. This system is very economical and provides enormous flexibility, allowing the closing off of awkward openings which may be typically very difficult to secure.
These barriers can further be used to secure loading docks and warehouse roller door entries, preventing the public from wandering into factories and warehouses during trading hours.
Providing Safe Environments
The S04-1™ trellis barriers can also assist in providing safe environments on construction sites that are near to pedestrian traffic. Bovis Lend Lease recently used these trellis barriers at their shopping centre extension in Charlestown, NSW.
Bovis were not allowed to do construction work at night due to noise considerations, so they used these barriers to cordon off mall areas under construction, from the trading areas thereby allowing construction work to continue during normal centre operating hours.
The systems are secured on each end by a slam-lock facility which locks the barrier to a side fixing point. If no suitable side-fixing point exists then one can use ATDC’s removable lockable post.
A typical example includes securing an area between machinery, shelving or glass walls where side locking onto these surfaces may not be possible. The removable lockable post locks down onto a laser cut stainless steel plate positioned on the floor, creating the required fixing point.

Security Standards and Testing
The S03™ and S06™ trellis doors passed this test by withstanding a force of 450N being applied to its locking style. i.e. the same effect as an intruder attempting to lever open our 3-point locking system.
The S03™ and S06™ trellis doors passed this test by withstanding a repeated impact force of 100 joules from a 40kg lead ball i.e. the same effect as an intruder attempting to kick his way through the security door.
The S03™ and S06™ trellis doors passed this test by withstanding a repeated pulling force of up to 2kN i.e. the same effect as an intruder attempting to pull out the security door or window.
To identify and mitigate risks to health and safety to assist in identifying safety hazards related to the supply and use of the S04-1™ mobile trackless trellis barrier.
