STACKABLE SLIDING DOORS

The Australian Trellis Door Co’s (ATDC™) stackable doors, especially folding closures, are becoming a preferred choice for internal applications in airports, shopping centres, and commercial buildings. Their versatility and customisation options make them a functional and aesthetically pleasing solution for modern architectural designs.

Stacking Sliding Doors: Versatile Solutions for Commercial Spaces

Customisable Infill Materials

ATDC’s stackable doors offer various infill material options to meet diverse requirements. The most common choice is polycarbonate, which provides a sleek, transparent finish. For applications requiring ventilation, perforated mesh is a popular alternative.

Additionally, ATDC has catered to specialised requirements, such as incorporating glass infills for installations like Melbourne’s new Emporium shopping centre.

Working With Grocon

This project, a Colonial First State Retail Trust development, was built by Grocon, Australia’s largest privately owned construction company. Other infill options include a grille-style brick pattern design, offering further versatility for customisation.

Unmatched Flexibility and Ease of Use

One of the standout features of ATDC’s stackable folding doors is their ability to span unlimited widths without the need for removable mullions. This makes them particularly suitable for large commercial spaces where seamless, uninterrupted spans are essential.

Better for Retail

Unlike traditional roller shutters, these stackable concertina closures require no overhead headroom, making them a more space-efficient option. Furthermore, they present a safer and more user-friendly alternative, especially for larger openings where roller shutters often pose operational challenges related to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S).

Ideal for Modern Commercial Spaces

ATDC’s stackable doors combine functionality, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Their adaptability to various environments and requirements makes them increasingly popular in contemporary commercial spaces.

Finally, Something New in Roller Shutters

New Clearvision Roller Shutter Pushes The Boundaries

Commercial Roller Shutter

Following months of research and development, a new clearvision roller shutter has been developed which pushes the boundaries. The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has just launched its new RS7 Clearvision widespan roller shutter with broad  application to the commercial, retail, medical and hospitality markets.

Combining the latest cutting edge technology, The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC)’s design engineers have developed a world class security shutter combining strength and style (with its heavy duty extruded aluminium interlocking slats) whilst at the same time providing maximum through vision and flow of light (with its polycarbonate infills) capable of spanning up to 5.5m in width in one section x 4.0m high if motorised with unlimited spans achievable by way of intermediate mullions.

And with the additional option of incorporating an overhead pelmet box to conceal the overhead roll where required.

The photograph shows a recent RS7 roller shutter installation for Seed at their new Macarthur Square in Campbelltown, Sydney. Seed commenced operations in 2000 and now has a global presence of over 200 stores in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. Its markets include childrens wear, a baby collection, womans apparel and a range for teens amongst others.

Project managers for the installation were Thomastown, Victoria based I4 Design and Construction.

New Commercial Aluminium Roller Shutters with Pelmet Box

Permashield™ Roller Shutters, a division of The Australian Trellis Door Company™, has launched an exciting new range of commercial aluminium roller shutters that roll up into precision-engineered pelmet boxes.

Innovative Concept for Commercial Use

While the concept of roller shutters rolling into pelmet boxes is widely available in the residential window shutter market, it is only now available commercially. These new commercial security shutters fold up into an unobtrusive, slimline pelmet box, concealing the otherwise exposed and unsightly roller mechanism at the top of the shutter. This works fantastically for businesses who want to have great security but retain aesthetics for their storefronts.

Customisable and Durable Design

Fabricated from aluminium, these pelmet boxes can be powder-coated to match the finish of the roller shutter or the premises to which the security shutter is attached. This customisable feature ensures a seamless and aesthetically pleasing integration with the building’s exterior or interior design.

Enhanced Security and Protection

Ideal for external installations on street fronts or commercial premises, the pelmet box also provides greater security by effectively acting as a tamper protection device. Additionally, it protects the roller shutter mechanism from dust, wind, and rain, thereby increasing the working life of the security shutter. The see-through design allows potential customers to see within the storefront even when closed, increasing chances of sales.

Versatile Internal Applications

These roller shutters are also suitable for internal applications such as reception areas, bars, counter tops, and hotels. The slimline pelmet box alleviates the need for the expensive option of dropping a ceiling to box in the axle and springs at the top of the shutter, making it a cost-effective and practical solution for various settings.

Trellis Doors – Mining

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) supplies and installs economical, retractable steel trellis security doors and concertina security barriers to secure most commercial, industrial, retail and domestic applications.

ATDC’s Economical, Retractable Steel Trellis Security Doors

Invisibility and Security

These folding security doors slide open to be invisible when not in use, and when closed (expanded) provide formidable security against intruders. These security doors are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Types of Expanding Security Doors

There are three main types of expanding security door/barrier supplied by ATDC.

Top-Hung Heavy-Duty Retractable Security Gate

The first is a top-hung heavy-duty retractable security gate which runs in a top track, with a range of options for the bottom, from a fixed or removable bottom track to patio bolt locking with no bottom track at all. These folding security gates can operate in a straight line or a curved configuration. They are fixed at the sides, and can lock either at the side or in the centre. They are popular with retail tenants on street-fronts, clubs, pubs, commercial buildings, government and educational facilities, as well as for doorways on residential dwellings.

Double Diamond Sliding Trellis Door

The second type of concertina security gate is the double diamond sliding trellis door which operates without a top track and requires side fixing points. These folding security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they are easily hinged. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through them. This same trellis door is also useful on fire egress applications through the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal.

Mobile Trackless Barrier

The third type is the mobile trackless security gate. These trellis security grilles mounted on mobile wheel bases provide flexibility, allowing the closing off of openings which are difficult to secure. They are self supporting, can be used with the absence of a super structure with no fixing points or supports, and can accommodate angled lines. They can span an unlimited width at any angle, without the need for any mullions. Being completely mobile and trackless, these systems could be stored off premises. They are excellent commercial crowd control barriers.

Applications in the Mining Industry

Trellis doors have many applications for the mining industry. Top-hung folding security grilles have been used to secure doorways to demountable residential dwellings within mining camps. Invisible by day and formidable by night, residents can feel secure that their belongings are adequately protected behind strong, high-quality steel security doors. Ornately designed and finished with a high-quality powder coat, these doors are attractive in a domestic setting. The fact that they can be slid open to the side when not required avoids the feeling for residents of “living behind bars”.

Security Solutions for Camps and Recreational Areas

These same retractable security grilles are used to secure both offices as well as recreational buildings within the camps. When installed on the outside, their strength and versatility ensures that no unwanted intruders will be able to gain access to the property when closed. These security grilles recently installed at the Mandaroo Mining Facility in WA, which provides housing for up to 5,000 miners.

While being a “dry camp”, the facility operators have created a recreational building, designed to be home away from home, where the miners can consume alcohol and engage in other forms of entertainment such as television and movies. Trellis security doors were installed inside the recreational building between the pub area and the television room, creating an easily operable closure to segregate the two areas. Trellis security gates were also installed in the same building between the pub area and the games room so that residents could continue to play games even after drinking hours, when restriction of access to the pub was required.

Safety in Underground Mining Operations

These top-hung security doors were recently supplied to the New Gold’s Peak Gold Mine at Cobar, for the use in one of their man-riding cages, typically used for hoisting materials or people underground. There are two doors on each cage. One door is fixed and the other is a sliding door i.e. a trellis security door. When the trellis door is fully slid open, the other door can be opened outwards. These concertina security doors allow safe interlocking of cage doors during travelling.

Double Diamond Trellis Security Grilles

ATDC’s double diamond trellis security grilles are being increasingly used on mines to protect the electrical services and restrict tampering with power boards, while still maintaining airflow and see through visibility when the trellis door is closed and locked.

Securing High-Pressure Water Valves

They are also used to restrict public access to high pressure water valves and water hydrants in narrow corridors, which feed water into their fire sprinkler systems. These trellis security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they easily hinged, providing an advantage over conventional gates which take up much more space. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through to reach the water valves and services.

This same concertina security door is also useful on fire egress applications; the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal is protected against tampering from the external by the closely spaced trellis door mesh. The double diamond security doors are constructed from steel, are galvanized against corrosion and powder coated in a gloss enamel finish giving the doors a very modern and professional look.

Mobile Trackless Barriers for Dangerous Machinery

The Mobile Trackless concertina security barriers are used by mines to provide a protective barrier for dangerous machinery in mining and manufacturing environments. They are used to restrict access to certain dangerous areas of the mine or production facility, while machines are in operation which could cause injury to passers by. These barriers are available to buy or you can use our crowd barrier rental option.

Restricting Access in Loading Docks and Warehouses

These retractable security barriers are also used to secure mines’ loading docks and warehouse roller door entries, preventing unauthorised access. Furthermore, they assist miners in providing safe environments on sites near to pedestrian traffic which have to be kept safely away from production. The systems are secured on each end by a slam-lock facility which locks the barrier to a side fixing point. If no suitable side-fixing point exists then one can use ATDC’s removable lockable post.

Trellis Door – Compliance with Relevant Clause D2.21 of the BCA

The Australian Trellis Door Company™’s (ATDC™) Egress Door has recently been certified to comply with Clause D2.21 of the BCA on the basis that it is fitted with hardware that is “readily openable without a key from the side that faces a person seeking egress, by a single hand downward action or pushing action on a single device which is located between 900 mm and 1.1 m from the floor”.

ATDC™ Egress Door Certified for BCA Compliance

Economic Security Solutions for Shopfront

ATDC offers a range of steel trellis security doors as an economic solution for securing shop-fronts in shopping centres and on street-frontage. These concertina security doors are becoming increasingly popular in shopping centres as the main (only) storefront door (no glass) due to their strength, through-visibility, competitive pricing point, and low maintenance.

These security doors represent a significant cost saving for prospective tenants compared to the traditional forms of horizontal folding closures and vertical shutters. They are becoming increasingly preferred as the door of choice for closing off stores selling electronic equipment, white goods, and other high-value items.

Innovative Egress Handle and Protective Plate Solution

The company has recently developed a new egress-handle and protective plate solution to enable easy keyless opening and exit from the inside of the store in an emergency situation. It is this solution which has received the certification referred to in the opening paragraph of this article.

The plate is constructed from high-strength thick Lexan sheeting, which is cut, bent, and slotted to enable it to slide with the concertina action of the folding trellis security door. A layer of 3M black vinyl film is applied to the Lexan to block out external visibility of the handle position (Lockwood lock and handle) situated on the inside of the plate/door.

Safe and Secure Access and Egress

Someone trapped on the inside of the store need merely push down the lever handle and slide the trellis door sideways to gain egress from the store. For entry to the store, another lock (ATDC Three-point Alumax Lock) is fitted to the centre of the door for easy key-turn access. This lock may be keyed-alike to other restrictive locking systems.

Compliant and Safe

For further details of the proposed application and the certifier’s assessment of the door prototype, you can request a copy of their Certificate of Compliance 2011-0616-1 Trellis Door – Compliance with the relevant provision of Part D1 & D2 of the BCA.

TRANSPARENT SECURITY BARS

Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™), renowned as Australia’s leading barrier specialist, has launched another winner in its security product lineup. This time, ATDC has introduced an innovative range of transparent burglar bars that offer robust security without the need for traditional metal security bars.

Innovative Security Solution by ATDC: Transparent Burglar Bars

Lexan: The Clear Choice for Security

Lexan is a durable polycarbonate resin known for its exceptional qualities, including high impact strength, light transmittance, and flame retardancy. Its impact resistance is so significant that it is virtually unbreakable, making it a preferred material in military and aircraft applications.

Unlike metal bars, Lexan provides total optical clarity, ensuring that your views, natural light, and ventilation are not compromised. This combination of security and transparency makes Lexan an ideal choice for both residential and commercial applications.

Resilient and Low-Maintenance

One of the standout features of Lexan is its ultra-violet protective layer, which prevents aging, fading, and discolouration. Additionally, its scratch-resistant surface ensures long-lasting clarity and minimal maintenance. Without any metal components, Lexan is resistant to corrosion and oxidation, further reducing the need for upkeep. As it has no moving parts, it is virtually maintenance-free, providing a hassle-free security solution that stands the test of time.

Versatile Applications

ATDC’s transparent burglar bars are suitable for a variety of applications. In the domestic market, they are ideal for securing windows and skylights, allowing homeowners to protect their properties without compromising on aesthetics. In the commercial sector, these bars can secure office buildings, service stations, countertops, serveries, and shopfront windows. The transparency of Lexan preserves the visual display of merchandise, making it an excellent choice for retail environments.

Easy Installation

These Lexan burglar bars are installed internally on windows with aluminium or timber surrounds, adding an extra layer of protection.
