The Australian Trellis Door Company™ has installed security trellis gates for Hungry Jacks in Melbourne

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has recently installed its security trellis gates for Hungry Jacks in Notting Hill, a suburb of Melbourne.

ATDC worked closely with MAS Building & Construction, a Melbourne based building company, in providing Hungry Jacks with a security solution to its servery counter at its Notting Hill store.

Deluxe Security Gates

ATDC’s S05 deluxe model security trellis gates were ideal for the application-the gates  not only provided the customer with a fully ventilated system for its food specific business but the fact the gates require no headroom at all was a major advantage as there was insufficient room inside the bulkhead to install any sort of overhead door system. Again the absence of the need for any floor tracking mechanism to secure the security trellis gate was an additional benefit. (For further information and a detailed specification on the S05 deluxe model security trellis gate visit ATDC’s website here)This makes the S05 trellis security gates ideal for securing serveries, counter tops, bench tops, reception areas, canteens and the like.

Commercial and Industrial Gates

ATDC’s trellis security gates can span any opening width without the need for any unwieldy removable mullions and by using a series of intermediate up/down locking mechanisms (as was used on the Hungry Jacks project) a seamless effect is created with no obstructions to trade. (For more detailed information on ATDC’s comprehensive range of commercial and industrial security trellis gates please visit ATDC’s website here).

Our Service Areas

ATDC’s security trellis gates are a cost effective alternative to overhead doors and are now sold in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Geelong, Newcastle, Townsville and Cairns and in all regional centres across Australia.

ATDC Installs Roller Grilles for First Choice Liquor at Casey Central Shopping Centre

SCENTRE has recently contracted The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) to install its commercial roller grilles for First Choice Liquor at Casey Central shopping centre at Melbourne’s, Narre Warren.

ATDC installed its RS9 high security commercial roller grilles at these premises, which are constructed from heavy duty 12.7mm aluminium tubes connected by tough extruded metal links giving the roller grille maximum strength, longevity and a sleek appearance, all characteristics required by SCENTRE. Added features of this product include it permitting maximum airflow and ventilation as well as preserving visibility of merchandise when the store is closed and locked out of trading hours. (For further information on this product view our product page here)

Commercial Roller Grille Installation

ATDC’s commercial roller grilles can be operated manually assisted by torsion springs or they can be electrically operated. In the latter case the roller grilles can be operated by key switch control again increasing the security features of the grille. Remote control features are a further option. The motors used are tubular in nature fitting inside the compact axle of the roller grille and so reduces the diameter of the roll providing an advantage in the case of installations where the headroom is limited.

The aluminium components of these commercial roller grilles are available in a clear anodised finish as a standard Powder coating options are an extra over that will allow the grilles to blend into almost any interior or exterior environment.

Added applications for these commercial roller grilles include securing shopping centres, counter tops, reception areas, alcoves, banks, car parks, delivery docks, canteens, schools, offices, commercial showrooms. For further applications and options visit our information page here.

These commercial roller grilles can span 4 metres in one section and through the use of removable mullions can span an unlimited width.

How Secure are Security Doors

What to Look for When Shopping for a Security Door

Installing a security door should help you sleep easy at night knowing that everyone is safe from potential danger. Purchasing one of these doors carries the implication that it holds up to certain standards and requirements. While this is often the case, some companies in Australia have been known to cut corners and use materials that are not considered industry grade quality.

To avoid this worrying trend, we have compiled some key information on finding the highest quality security doors.

Australian Standards 5039-2008

All security doors should comply with Australian Standards 5039-2008. These regulations were formulated by a committee of experts in the industry, including the Australian Window Association, Master Builders Australia, Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia and the National Security Screen Association. This panel of experts decide the materials that should be used in security doors to ensure maximum protection for their owners, while also mandating required performance under a series of strength tests.

There are three aspects this committee has recognised as crucial to the performance and integrity of security screens and doors:

  • The strength of the screen door/window grill or mesh
  • The strength of the adaptor frame and how it is fixed
  • The structural strength of the door frame or window frame

Security Screen Strength Tests

To comply with the relevant code, security tests need to be carried out by an authorised National Association Testing Authority (NATA). These tests determine the strength and reliability of your security screen, window or grille. The tests include:

  • The anti-jemmy test
  • The pull test
  • The dynamic impact test
  • The knife shear test
  • The probe test

Only three tests are applicable under the Australian Standards for sliding security doors. These consist of the pull, anti-jimmy and dynamic impact tests.

Materials

Security doors need to be made from sturdy materials that pass these tests and keep your home safe from potential intruders. If you’re in the market for a new security door, make sure that you are aware of all the materials used in the production process. Stainless steel mesh that is durable and corrosion resistant is recommended by industry experts.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Written Certification

After purchasing your new security door, it is essential that you ask your provider for a written certification that indicates compliance with Australian Standards 5039-2008. Never be shy about this and always push to make sure that your door provider keeps you informed about the ins and outs of their products.

At The Australian Trellis Door Company™, we guarantee the very highest standards of quality for all of our doors and shutters. We provide all of our customers with the finest security doors and screens on the market as well as the written certification to prove compliance with industry standards.

ATDC Involved in prestigious Wynyard Walk project in Sydney’s CBD

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has been involved with the NSW Government’s $300 million prestigious Wynyard Walk project in Sydney’s CBD, a project which entails construction of a world class, fully accessible pedestrian link connecting Wynyard Station to both Barrangaroo and the CBD western corridor.

ATDC was engaged by the lead architect for the project, Woods Bagot which approached ATDC to assist in designing a folding security door to secure Railway House, a heritage building on York Street with doorways leading on to York Lane.

Folding Security Doors

It was imperative that the folding security doors blended in to the surrounds of the historic building so as to have minimal impact and in this regard the doors were to be trackless and designed to pivot out of the way when unlocked and not in use. A special powdercoat finish (Signalschwarz) was selected from the international RAL powdercoat range to further complement the heritage façade of the building. For more information on ATDC’s pivoting trackless door view the product information here.

ATDC were involved in all aspects of the design process of the folding security doors and liaised with the project managers, CPB Contractors, to arrange for the challenging installation where ATDC were not permitted to affix to the heritage façade nor to lock on to it. To avoid attaching to the façade specially designed welded frames were constructed which were attached to the floor and ceiling. To avoid locking on to the façade special seamless up/down locking mechanisms were utilized. In addition the locking mechanisms on these folding security doors had to be keyed to the master key system used for the site.

Installations throughout Australia

ATDC’’s folding security doors have been installed on many heritage buildings throughout Australia including many of the old railway stations in QLD, NSW, WA and Vic. In each case the antiquated olde style appeal of these doors as well as their negligible impact on each of the relevant historic buildings have been their major advantages. For more information on heritage applications view our article here.

Security Door Availability

ATDC’s folding security doors are available for sale in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin as well as all regional centres across the country including Newcastle, Geelong, Townsville and Cairns.

ATDC Completes Expanding Door Installation for Healthcare Facility in Sydney

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) recently installed a Twenty (20) lineal metre curved expanding security door for a new healthcare facility at George Street, Sydney.

ATDC’s expanding security door features the latest cutting edge technology including seamless up/down locking mechanisms which are built into the door allowing for a secure closure without the need for any removable mullions. (More information on ATDC’s S08 curved expanding security door here).

Heavy Duty Security Doors

The expanding security door is suspended from a heavy duty extruded top track which is shaped to accommodate exactly the tight curves and angles of the aperture –the top track is itself supported from a continuous top support beam which runs immediately above it without any air gaps. The top track is recessed into the ceiling and there is no floor track. Both factors enhance the seamless effect of the door. The tightest radius curve available is 600mm.

The expanding security door is also available on a parallel top track configuration whereby the door is designed to stack back in dual sections on multiple tracks thereby reducing the side stacking factor to a minimum. (More information on the parallel top tracking S07 side-by-side stacking door here)

Expandable Barriers for Sydney’s QVB Shopping Centre

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has recently installed its expandable barriers throughout Sydney’s landmark QVB shopping centre.

Custom Security for a Heritage Building by ATDC

These security barriers were installed in multiple locations for many reasons including improving access control and general security at the centre. By installing the expandable barriers in strategic areas, ATDC was able to assist in locking down certain areas of the centre and thereby not only reducing the cost of manned security patrols but also in deterring vagrants and homeless people from sleeping in the shopping centre. Furthermore, the expandable barriers assist in reducing theft of fresh produce, food and other stock which is generally delivered to the centre outside normal trading hours.

Trackless & Custom-made 50’s Style Barriers

The expandable barrier used is trackless, it is constructed either from either precision engineered steel or aluminium and the older 50’s style of the expandable barriers also complements the striking heritage features of QVB’s architecture while the professional baked enamel powder coated finish. Multi-point locking options are available for extra security if required and some of our expandable barriers have passed the rigorous testing requirements under Australian Standard 4687-4007 Temporary Fencing and Hoarding including Simulated Climbing, Wind Force Overturn, Foothold Aperture and Impact tests.

Deemed to Satisfy BCA Expandable Barriers

Our expandable barrier is able to comply in certain circumstances with the deemed to satisfy provisions of the Building Code of Australia. For more information about our BCA Compliance, please see our BCA Compliance article.

ATDC Supplies Folding Security Gates for Townsville Rail

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ has recently installed its folding security gates for Queensland Rail for the recent upgrade at Townsville Railway Station, replacing similar gates that ATDC had installed at the same premises nearly 20 years prior.

The general job description for ATDC was to supply folding security gates that not only enhanced the qualities of this heritage listed government building but also did not impede the flow of people in this public space.

ATDC’s pivoting S07™ folding security gates met all the requirements for this project. The S07™’s appearance is similar to the old style gates which were used in lifts and elevators in the days gone by and on this project were powder coated in a heritage green finish to match the ornate wrought iron steelwork suspended directly above it. Further, these security gates were designed in such a way that they hinge aside 90 degrees away from the opening thereby maximizing the free flow of public foot traffic through the entries and exits of the railway station. The absence of floor tracking was an added feature to enhance people flow.

The folding security gates are precision engineered with triple contact point locking and come with a 10 year installation warranty. In this instance the gates – which are galvanized and powder coated, had survived in good order on the external of the railway station for nearly 20 years.

ATDC’s range includes gates that comply with Australian standards for sliding security doors – the only folding security gates in the country that are security standard compliant.

Australian Trellis Door Company™ supplies a comprehensive range of cutting edge folding security gates for the commercial, industrial and residential markets. These doors are available for sale in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Newcastle and Geelong and in all regional locations across Australia ().

Concertina Retractable Screen now with Retractable Insect Screen

The Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) has recently successfully adapted a retractable flyscreen to its concertina style security screens.

Innovative New Ideas

It has been a perennial challenge for ATDC’s engineers, trying to successfully adapt flyscreen mesh to collapsible style security screens due to the potential of the insect screen mesh becoming intertwined amongst all the moving parts of the security screens.  ATDC has overcome these issues by utilizing a high quality spring loaded flyscreen which retracts in tandem with the security screens and slides along a fully captive extruded aluminium top and bottom track, rolling into a concealed slimline pelmet box on the side of the opening. These insect screens are similar in colour to the security screens and so are almost invisible and unnoticeable, blending into the surrounds.

This innovative idea meets a growing customer demand for ATDC’s security screens namely to provide formidable security screens whilst also providing protection from insects and other vermin.

Domestic Security Doors

Typical domestic applications for ATDC’s security screens including securing sliding glass doors, patio doors, alcoves, carports, French doors, windows, passageways, front doors and bi fold glass doors.

Unique to ATDC’s security screens is that whilst providing a formidable security barrier, they fold out of sight when not in use behind curtains or blinds so as to be practically invisible.

When locked, ATDC’s security screens permit maximum sunlight to filter into the room they are securing allowing the free flow of fresh air and ventilation, keeping the room light, fresh, bright and breezy and now also preventing flies and other insects from entering the premises through the screen.

Precision engineered from marine grade aluminium or toughened steel ,ATDC’s extensive range of security screens have multi point locking options, full frames for extra strength and either stainless steel rivets or brass rivets providing that extra level of home security.

Our Service Areas

ATDC’s extensive range of security screens are now sold in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Newcastle, Geelong, Townsville and in all other regional towns and centres across Australia. ATDC’s BIFOLD DOORS HIT WITH WH SMITH

Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) has recently installed its FC1 bifold doors closures at the new WH Smith store at Sydney International Airport.

WH Smith is a British based global retailer of books, stationery, newspapers, magazines and entertainment products and employs over 14 thousand staff in over 1400 locations around the globe.

Quality Security Grilles & Closures

ATDC’s bi-fold doors were ideal in this application given the massive size of WH Smith’s storefront (totalling nearly 53 lineal metres) with its irregular curved shapes, sloping floors and the requirement for ventilation which in this case was provided by the perforated metal finish of the screen which permitted maximum airflow. Lexan, Polycarbonate, aluminium or even tempered glass are other optional finishes.

ATDC’s bi-fold doors have the added advantaged that they can span these large apertures without the need for both cumbersome removable mullions and costly motorization options. Further, the folding doors can accommodate difficult potential obstructions such as multi-level counters and counter cut-outs. And the further option of having emergency egress doors within the folding door allows for BCA compliance where necessary.

ATDC’s folding doors can be installed as either internal bi-fold doors or even external bifold doors to commercial premises as required according to each application making them extremely versatile. These folding doors are available in a natural anodised finish or they can be custom powdercoated and colour coordinated to blend in with almost any colour scheme.
