What are security doors?

What Are Security Doors?

Just about every home in Australia has a security door. These doors are highly functional, delivering added protection to your home with a wide array of different designs and styles. Most people, however, don’t really know much about their security doors in terms of many basic concepts.

Security Doors Basics

Security doors are a significant protective asset for your home. They’re a lockable, physical, metal barrier designed to protect you and your family from break and enter attempts that intrude into your home and your business. Expert installers will advise you regarding vulnerable access points and suggest security door options.

Security doors are also a useful deterrent. The underlying concept of security doors is to deter the would-be intruder from even attempting to gain unlawful entry into your property and they are effective. Security doors can be hard targets for would-be intruders, presenting a solid and secure line of defence to entry.

Most modern security doors are pretty hard to open by force. All modern security doors have a level of force resistance built in, which is defined by the Australian Standard 5039. Australian Standard 5039 deals with the minimum requirements for the construction, design, and performance of security screen doors and the specifications are pretty high.

Security doors are tested to the Australian Standard as the bottom line for testing. Any door that passes the various stress tests qualifies as compliant Australian Standard 5039.

Choosing a Security Door

The Australian Standards are a very good benchmark for choosing your security door. If they’re not Australian Standard, they either haven’t been tested or couldn’t pass the test to meet Standard requirements. Either way, why would you want an inferior, untested product? Stick with the Australian Standard certified products.

The other major considerations for choosing a security door are:

  • Design: Do you want something that fits your exterior design or just a basic security door that will do the job? Take a little time to really explore all your options. You’ll find a truly huge range of choices.
  • Type of security door: There are many options available, particularly for commercial premises and modern homes with a lot of entry space like double doors, patio doors, etc. Do you want a retractable security door, a folding security door, expanding security door, concertina security door, or a shop front security door? Check out your choices because there are some excellent designs available.
  • Security doors and access points: It’s often a good idea to do a thorough upgrade of onsite security when you’re looking at security doors. Do you need security doors at other access points? The usual result of a site access analysis is a good mix of options and some expert advice is useful for finding possible security issues.

ATDC Launches New Slimline Panel Accordion Door in Australia

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) is proud to announce the launch of its new 150mm slimline panel accordion door, the model FC2.

Following on the broad success of its wide body 300mm FC1 accordion door, the FC2 accordion door has been launched to cater for situations where the pocket width for a particular opening is restricted and hence where the wide body panel would exceed the width limitations available. The FC2 is also ideal where the accordion door needs to traverse extremely tight radius turns. For further information on the success of ATDC’s 300mm folding accordion door please see our article in the news and blog section here and again in our article here.

Accordion Door – Precision Engineered

ATDC’s new accordion door is precision engineered and is manufactured from extruded aluminium sections which operate through a series of interlocking hinges and heavy duty top wheel carriages creating the sliding and folding action of the door  through a low friction and lightweight operation which is always user friendly no matter how large the opening.

ATDC’S new accordion door combines strength, style and world class corrosion resistance and is designed for the discerning business owner-it is one of the world’s finest commercial closures ever launched on the Australian market and is the result of many years of research and development.

Seamless Locking Mechanisms

With its seamless up/down locking mechanisms and architecturally rolled  curved configurations, the FC2 can accommodate a 90 degree turn through a 405 mm radius and can even traverse an S-Bend shaped aperture where required. Standard coatings include a professional natural anodised finished whilst powdercoated finishes (from the Dulux range) are an additional extra.

Curtain infill options include polycarbonate, toughened glass, solid aluminium, aluminium vertical rods or even a perforated mesh infill. For further information on ATDC’s accordion doors view our production information.

What are the Best Security Doors

What Makes a Security Door Great?

When shopping for a domestic or commercial security door, you want to find a product that will offer you the very best safety and security for your property. Finding such products can be a difficult task for people who aren’t familiar with the finer points of security systems.

If you’re looking for a checklist of the most important things to look for in a security door, read on. We’ll tell you all about security doors and what makes them great.

Only Choose Doors That Comply with National Standards

Any security door that you choose should comply with Australian Standards 5039-2008. Any product that adheres to these industry standards will have undergone a number of tests to demonstrate its ability to withstand potential break-ins.

Under the Australian standards for sliding security doors, only three tests are applicable; including the pull, anti-jimmy and dynamic impact tests.

Some Key Features

High-end security screens will generally have a full frame, a triple contact locking mechanism and be constructed with a strong material such as steel. Make sure that any security protection you buy is made using the very best materials and the strongest metals.

Look for Australian Made Products

Don’t settle for cheap imports when you’re in the market for a security door. Imported security systems from countries such as China or Sri Lanka are likely to be made of inferior materials. They are also less likely to have undergone any sort of industry grade testing. Purchasing these cheap alternatives is never a good option, potentially putting your property at risk.

Instead, always go for Australian made products from Australian owned companies. Not only is the final product likely to be far superior, but you will also be supporting a home-grown brand and the domestic economy.

Residential Properties

Are you are looking for a door for your residential property? Look for doors that will allow ventilation, breeze and daylight to pass through the doors without compromising security. You want something that won’t make your home look like a compound while ensuring the safety of your building. Going for a door with great ventilation will also allow cool breezes to flow through your home, making it more enjoyable for everyone.

Commercial Properties

For commercial properties, you will want a security door with slightly different properties. The better security doors will be those that can span longer openings easily, without compromising security. Ideally, these doors should be able to slide completely out of the way during trading hours, ensuring that customers feel welcome in your store. After closing hours, they should drape across your building and send a strong message to intruders!

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ has a wide range of security doors for all kinds of properties. Contact us to speak to find out more today or call our toll free number on 1800 657 435.

ATDC Completes Installation of Security Scissor Gates for H&M in Perth

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) has recently completed an installation of its premium grade high security scissor gates for global retail brand, H&M in Perth. Sweden’s H&M Group is one of the world’s leading fashion companies with 161 000 employees and featuring 4400 stores in 65 countries. The specifying architect on the job was The Buchan Group while the project manager and builder was Valmont.

Heavy Duty Scissor Gates

ATDC installed its heavy duty steel scissor gates to the H&M storefront entry as a security measure to prevent break and entry into the high fashion store. Finished in a high gloss white powdercoated finish, the bi-parting scissor gate retracts to both sides of the opening forming a neat compact stacking size each end of approximately 15% of the overall span. With its open grille design, ATDC’s scissor gate permits maximum through vision at night (maximizing the display of the merchandise) while providing the security the retailer is seeking. During trading hours however the scissor gate occupies a very compact storage area making it virtually invisible and un-noticeable. For further information on ATDC’s commercial range of scissor gates visit our website here.

The height of the security scissor gate at H&M Perth is 3600mm and this required the use of heavy duty low friction industrial grade wheel carriages with metal bearings to allow the curtain to slide and operate  effortlessly and ensuring its functional integrity and longevity. Being top hung and weighing approximately 13 kg/sqm, the installation required the heavy duty extruded top track of the scissor gate be suspended directly below a continuous suspended steel beam which runs the entire span of the opening including in the storage area to support the weight of the scissor gate. For further information on ATDC’s heavy duty scissor gate installed H&M Perth visit our page here.

Security Doors in Perth

ATDC sells its scissor gates not only in Perth but also in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as all regional centres across Australia including Newcastle, Geelong, Townsville.  ATDC’s scissor gates are exported to Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, throughout South East Asia and the Asia Pacific as well as the Pacific Islands and the UAE. Where Can I Buy Security Doors?

Where Can I Buy Security Doors?

Security door providers are a dime a dozen in the current market, but not all companies are built the same. With a multitude of options available, it can be difficult to find a reputable supplier that you feel comfortable with.

Luckily, the team at The Australian Trellis Door Company™ have put together a small article to help you navigate the pool of potential competitors. By following a few simple steps, you’ll be able to find your perfect match, putting you well on the way to safeguarding your home or business.

Search the Web

The very first step in your search for a security door should be a detailed Google search. You shouldn’t just look for the first company that pops up on your search, but rather you should dig deep into forums, websites and review sites. Gathering information from as many sources as possible will help make your decision easier in the long run. Search for companies with a good reputation, a strong financial standing and an impressive warranty that you can rely on. This will help you make a great final decision.

Visit Their Showroom

You can narrow down your search using Google, but nothing beats physically visiting showrooms. By visiting various showrooms and assembly plants, you’ll start to get an idea of how companies operate and just what they have to offer.

You want to look for successful manufacturers that produce great products and deliver friendly customer service. Serious security door companies should be prepared and ready to show visitors around their showroom, providing a great atmosphere for potential customers.

At The Australian Trellis Door Company™, we always ensure that visitors walk away with a wealth of knowledge about our products and our company culture.

Look for Established Companies

Turn away from the typical “one-man shows” that the security industry has become renowned for. These shady operators have garnered a poor reputation in industry circles for bad workmanship and questionable business practices. We cannot stress enough that it is always advisable to choose a well-known, well-trusted security door and screen manufacturer.

Try to find companies that have been in business longer than the warranty on their products. These companies are more likely to be dependable and legitimate than newer, unknown companies.

Speak to the Team at ATDC

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ has always strived towards excellence and we have been achieving it for more than 30 years. Our range of extendable shutter doors are considered to be among the finest Australia has ever seen. With our tireless work ethic, top of the range products and commitment to customer service, we are one of the industry leaders in our field.

With locations Australia wide, ATDC is a great option for security doors wherever you are in the country. Contact us today to speak to our expert team. For more information, call ATDC toll-free on 1800 657 435.

Who Makes the Best Security Doors

Searching for the Best Security Door Providers

When shopping for security doors and systems, many people ask the question “Who makes the best security doors?” While this is a highly subjective question, there are a number of features that characterise the elite Australian security door providers.

Read on to learn some of the defining features of prominent security door companies in Australia.

Look for a Licensed Provider

Start by searching for companies that have been licensed by an official regulatory body. For example, in New South Wales you should look for companies that have been awarded a Master Security Licence by the NSW Police. This accreditation signifies a high level of expertise that has probably been gained after years of service. Master Security Licence Holders are generally at the very top of their industry.

Always look for the most important security door certifications in your state before choosing a provider.

Research Their Trading History

Once you have identified the premium security door providers in your area, you should start to research their brand history. Look at how long these brands have operated for, what products they offer and what customers have had to say about their products. In the 21st century, this couldn’t be easier thanks to the World Wide Web. Our access to the internet means that there is no excuse not to do your research on a security door provider.

Look for companies with a history of product excellence, honesty and customer satisfaction during your search. These traits, in addition to the necessary industry certifications, should indicate a top quality option.

Always Ask about Warranties

To learn more about the integrity and honesty of a company, we recommend reading through their warranty terms. This binding contract can reveal a lot about your potential supplier’s code of ethics and moral fibre. Always ensure that you completely understand what you are getting before signing any contract. Look for a company that has been in business for longer than the warranty of their contracts.

The Australian Trellis Door Company™

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ has maintained an exceptional reputation as one of the very best security screen and door companies in the country. ATDC is headquartered in Sydney but we have branched out and secured national representation. We hold the appropriate NSW Master Security Licence while also adhering to the appropriate national regulatory standards in our industry. ATDC is proud to set the standard for security doors and we maintain an ongoing commitment to excellence and the very best security products.

How Much Do Security Doors Cost

Putting a Price on Safety – How Much Do Security Doors Cost?

For most homeowners and businesses, security doors are a long term investment that’s worth making. They can help protect your property from theft and damage and they guard your family or employees from potential danger. When it comes to protecting heirlooms, products, housemates and pets, you can never truly set a maximum price. Spending a little bit extra on your security door should be seen as a priority, not a hassle.

At The Australian Trellis Door Company™, we are passionate about providing the best security doors and shutters at affordable prices. Check out our guide to find out how much your security doors might cost.

Some Pricing Examples

In Australia, the price of security windows, doors and screens will vary depending on the size and style you choose.

Our entry level stainless steel security doors are priced at around $995 including GST, while our entry level trellis security door for front doors are priced at around $1595, including GST.

For securing your sliding doors, the proportional price rate for the trellis security doors drop markedly, depending on how large the opening is.

Contact us for further information about pricing.

Do They Comply with Industry Standards?

The cost of your new security door will largely depend on its quality compared to the recognised industry standard.

Security doors that comply with Australian standards 5039-2008 will be more expensive than those that are uncertified. While it may sometimes be tempting to go for the cheaper, non-certified option, this is something that we strongly advise against.

Certified security doors are more expensive for a reason. These products have undergone rigorous testing and they are proven to stand up to intruders and forceful impacts. Without this testing, there is no way of knowing if your new door will be able to keep out would-be burglars. Always pay a little extra for the peace of mind that certified security doors will give you.

Never Settle for Less than the Best

There are several materials you should look for in a security door. Always ensure that your provider is using solid, full surrounding frames, triple contact quality locking mechanisms, and non-pivoting solid rivets. These materials will ensure the highest levels of security for your property.

While these products will translate into a more expensive final product, you can’t really put a maximum price on your safety.

Always Get Competitive Quotes

When you’re in the market for domestic or commercial security products, never settle for the first option without seeing what their competitors are offering. While you should be willing to pay for the best, it’s never in your best interest to pay above the market premium for your security door or shutter. Instead, look for the best available product at the most competitive price.

For more information on our expanding security doors and screens, contact the team at The Australian Trellis Door Company™ today. Call our toll free number today – 1800 657 435.
