Finally, Something New in Roller Shutters

Permashield™ Roller Shutters, a division of The Australian Trellis Door Company™, has launched an exciting new range of commercial aluminium roller shutters, which roll up into precision-engineered pelmet boxes.

The concept is widely available within the residential window shutter market but only now is it available commercially.

These new commercial security shutters now fold up into an unobtrusive, slimline pelmet box, concealing the otherwise exposed and unsightly roller mechanism at the top of the shutter. Fabricated from aluminium these pelmet boxes can be powdercoated to match the finish of the roller shutter or to match finish of the premises to which the security shutter is attached.

Ideal for external installations on streetfronts or commercial premises, this pelmet box also provides greater security by effectively providing a tamper protection device. In addition, it also protects the roller shutter mechanism from dust, wind and rain, and also increases the working life of the security shutter.

Also suitable for internal applications such as reception areas, bars, counter tops and hotels where it alleviates the need for the rather expensive option of dropping a ceiling to box in the axle and springs at the top of the shutter.

RETRACTABLE SECURITY DOORS

Expandable Safety Barriers

Whether you are a home owner or business owner, The Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) has a full range of heavy duty and budget grade retractable security doors to suit your application and secure your premises. There are many advantages in using retractable security doors instead of other security systems currently available on the market.

In a domestic application alternative products include stainless steel mesh screens, steel wrought iron and aluminium security doors and domestic roller shutters Stainless steel screens are great however they tend to darken the room whereas retractable security doors allow all the sunlight in making your home bright and airy (SO2 1 ultra deluxe security door system).

Aluminium roller shutters are excellent to secure smaller windows however are not very secure over larger openings such as sliding glass bifold doors as compared to retractable security doors which can secure any opening no matter how wide (SO3 concertina security door system).

Wrought iron doors and aluminium security doors are limited in that they cannot compact back to a manageable size when unlocked and open and so hence tend to obscure your views and create a jail-like effect as compared to retractable security doors which fold back out of the way and tuck away neatly behind curtains or blinds so as to be almost invisible (SO1 economy safety door system).

In commercial applications roller shutters tend to be limiting where headroom is limited and also on wider openings it becomes necessary to use intermediate removeable mullions which tend to be unwieldy and can often lead to maintenance problems and OH+S issues for staff.Retractable security doors on the other hand occupy no head room and can span almost any width at all (SO5 1 heavy duty commercial steel security door).

Roller shutters are difficult to install on curved apertures whereas retractable security doors can accommodate curves as tight as 90 degrees over a 600mm tight radius making them particularly suitable for curved shopfronts, curved restaurant frontages and the like (SO8 curved trellis security door).

Trellis door products available Australia wide and in all major cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Other applications for ATDC’s portable gates include providing a barrier for access control and protecting staff from dangerous machinery. ATDC’s portable gates allow for complete through visibility as well as throw flow of fresh air for ventilation in the hot summer months. Security Doors

ATDC has installed its doors in many of Australia’s leading shopping centres such as Westfields, Lendlease, Mirvac, Colonial, AMP, Stocklands and many more.

ATDC’s shopping centre doors are being increasingly used by both shopping centre landlords for general shopping centre security requirements and then also by tenants to secure their shopfronts, whether they are on long or short terms leases. Not only are ATDC’s shopping centre doors flexible and versatile but they are also proving increasingly popular due to their cost effectiveness in the current tough retail trading environment. ATDC’s shopping centre doors also have certification for egress under the BCA which allows for quick exit from stores in the case of emergency such as fire. Furthermore certain of ATDC’s doors have independent WHS Risk Assessments completed for safety under Australia’s OH+S legislation.

Tenants use different shopping centre doors from ATDC’s range depending on whether they occupy kiosks or pop up/temporary stores in which case they are utilizing the trackless shopping centre doors or whether they occupy in line stores on longer term leases in which cases they are using the top hung track shopping centre doors including SO6 concertina Security Door System and SO8 Curved Security Screen.

ATDC’s engineers have developed shopping centre doors with unique and innovative locking options, straight-line and curved angle options and many more design innovations which benefit the retailer.

We supply and install quality security roller shutters, folding security doors and security gates Australia wide including all major cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Letter of Appreciation

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to formally thank you for the installation of my Trellis Door System installed in my home. After a robbery, I become increasingly concerned about security.

On contacting your company I was extremely impressed by the professional manner I was treated. In particular, MR. RICHARD KAPLAN, who’s advice on “Style” and appropriate model was “spot on”.

Your installer Mr. Wayne Bate was extremely professional and went out of his way during the installation and was very punctual.

Friends and family have commented how the Trellis System has enhanced the look of my 1920’s period home and not to mention its security aspect.

It is a nice feeling knowing that we can go out and have “all” our windows open and have the security of the Trellis System.

Once again, I thank Richard and staff who gave me friendly, honest and professional service. I would have no hesitation in recommending your product and already have done so to family and friends who have made such positive comments. A JOB WELL DONE.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Maloney

Trellis Doors – Mining

The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) supplies and installs economical, retractable steel trellis security doors and concertina security barriers to secure most commercial, industrial, retail and domestic applications.

These folding security doors slide open to be invisible when not in use, and when closed (expanded) provide formidable security against intruders. These security doors are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

There are three main types of expanding security door/barrier supplied by ATDC. The first is a top-hung heavy-duty retractable security gate which runs in a top track, with a range of options for the bottom, from a fixed or removable bottom track to patio bolt locking with no bottom track at all. These folding security gates can operate in a straight line or a curved configuration. They are fixed at the sides, and can lock either at the side or in the centre. They are popular with retail tenants on street-fronts, clubs, pubs, commercial buildings, government and educational facilities, as well as for doorways on residential dwellings.

The second type of concertina security gate is the double diamond sliding trellis door which operates without a top track and requires side fixing points. These folding security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they are easily hinged. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through them. This same trellis door is also useful on fire egress applications through the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal.

The third type is the mobile trackless barrier. These trellis security grilles mounted on mobile wheel bases provide flexibility, allowing the closing off of openings which are difficult to secure. They are self supporting, can be used with the absence of a super structure with no fixing points or supports, and can accommodate angled lines. They can span an unlimited width at any angle, without the need for any mullions. Being completely mobile and trackless, these systems could be stored off premises.

Trellis doors have many applications for the mining industry. Top-hung folding security grilles have been used to secure doorways to demountable residential dwellings within mining camps. Invisible by day and formidable by night, residents can feel secure that their belongings are adequately protected behind strong, high-quality steel security doors. Ornately designed and finished with a high-quality powder coat, these doors are attractive in a domestic setting. The fact that they can be slid open to the side when not required avoids the feeling for residents of “living behind bars”.

These same retractable security grilles are used to secure both offices as well as recreational buildings within the camps. When installed on the outside, their strength and versatility ensures that no unwanted intruders will be able to gain access to the property when closed. These security grilles recently installed at the Mandaroo Mining Facility in WA, which provides housing for up to 5,000 miners. While being a “dry camp”, the facility operators have created a recreational building, designed to be home away from home, where the miners can consume alcohol and engage in other forms of entertainment such as television and movies. Trellis security doors were installed inside the recreational building between the pub area and the television room, creating an easily operable closure to segregate the two areas. Trellis security gates were also installed in the same building between the pub area and the games room so that residents could continue to play games even after drinking hours, when restriction of access to the pub was required.

These top-hung security doors were recently supplied to the New Gold’s Peak Gold Mine at Cobar, for the use in one of their man-riding cages, typically used for hoisting materials or people underground. There are two doors on each cage. One door is fixed and the other is a sliding door i.e. a trellis security door. When the trellis door is fully slid open, the other door can be opened outwards. These concertina security doors allow safe interlocking of cage doors during travelling.

ATDC’s double diamond trellis security grilles are being increasingly used on mines to protect the electrical services and restrict tampering with power boards, while still maintaining airflow and see through visibility when the trellis door is closed and locked.

They are also used to restrict public access to high pressure water valves and water hydrants in narrow corridors, which feed water into their fire sprinkler systems. These trellis security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they easily hinged, providing an advantage over conventional gates which take up much more space. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through to reach the water valves and services. This same concertina security door is also useful on fire egress applications; the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal is protected against tampering from the external by the closely spaced trellis door mesh. The double diamond security doors are constructed from steel, are galvanized against corrosion and powder coated in a gloss enamel finish giving the doors a very modern and professional look.

The Mobile Trackless concertina security barriers are used by mines to provide a protective barrier for dangerous machinery in mining and manufacturing environments. They are used to restrict access to certain dangerous areas of the mine or production facility, while machines are in operation which could cause injury to passers by.

These retractable security barriers are also used to secure mines’ loading docks and warehouse roller door entries, preventing unauthorised access. Furthermore, they assist miners in providing safe environments on sites near to pedestrian traffic which have to be kept safely away from production. The systems are secured on each end by a slam-lock facility which locks the barrier to a side fixing point. If no suitable side-fixing point exists then one can use ATDC’s removable lockable post.

Trellis Door – Compliance with Relevant Clause D2.21 of the BCA

The Australian Trellis Door Company™’s (ATDC™) Egress Door has recently been certified to comply with Clause D2.21 of the BCA on the basis that it is fitted with hardware that is “readily openable without a key from the side that faces a person seeking egress, by a single hand downward action or pushing action on a single device which is located between 900 mm and 1.1 m from the floor”.

ATDC offers a range of steel trellis security doors as an economic solution for securing shop-fronts in shopping centres and on street-frontage.

These concertina security doors are becoming increasingly popular in shopping centres as the main (only) store front door (no glass) due to their strength, through-visibility, competitive pricing point and low maintenance. These security doors represent a significant cost saving for prospective tenants compared to the traditional forms of horizontal folding closures and vertical shutters. They are becoming increasingly preferred as the door of choice for closing off stores selling electronic equipment, white-goods and other high value items.

The company has recently developed a new egress-handle and protective plate solution to enable easy keyless opening and exit from the inside of the store in an emergency situation. It is this solution which has received the certification referred to in the opening paragraph of this article.

The plate is constructed from high-strength thick Lexan sheeting, which is cut, bent and slotted to enable it to slide with the concertina action of the folding trellis security door. A layer of 3M black vinyl film is applied to the Lexan to block out external visibility of the handle position (Lockwood lock and handle) situated on the inside of the plate/door.

Someone trapped on the inside of the store need merely push down the lever handle and slide the trellis door sideways to gain egress from the store.

For entry to the store, another lock (ATDC Three-point Alumax Lock) is fitted to the centre of the door for easy key-turn access. This lock may be keyed-alike to other restrictive locking systems.

For further details of the proposed application and the certifier’s assessment of the door prototype you can request a copy of their Certificate of Compliance 2011-0616-1 Trellis Door – Compliance with the relevant provision of Part D1 & D2 of the BCA.
